Snowplow in Spain

Snow in Spain near the top of
the Port-Ainé. It's not a ski-station for nothing!

I woke up this morning to watch the double;  Dwars door Vlaanderen and the queen stage 3 of the Volta a Catalunya.

Tuning in I discovered the classic Belgian race with odd sunshine and ...snow in Spain.

Spanish organizers decided to curtail the length of stage 3 by 55kms finishing on the Port del Canto sidestepping the mountain finish on the Port-Ainé.

I couldn't believe the snow plows, twitter provided on time images and I was more than surprise the stage continued. Many riders didn't finish; Valverde (DNS), Dumolin, Basso, Van Garderen, Andy Schleck this list goes on.

Only the tough rode and Janez Brajkovic, the Astana captain beat Michal Golas to win the snow-shortened stage. Organizers decided not to count the stage on the GC, so it's back to Albasni as overall leader 1:32sec on Ryder Hesjedal (second on GC).

Let's hope there's no need for the snow plows for stage 4!

The stage that never counted,
Brajkovic crosses the line.
