Lockeing Up Victories

Lockeing up victories,
first win of this season...
2012 Tour of the Mediterranean.

Never heard of Jonathan Tiernan-Locke?

Today, at the Tour of Haut Var, Tiernan-Locke locked up stage two and the overall, surpassing many riders like favorites; Moncoutie and Gilbert. I watched his short French interview and he said that he was very tired. He didn't show it on the final steep climb to the top of  La Croix Valmer. He shows his class dancing on his pedals and passing many riders to win. On stage 1 he finished third and showed how he was itching to get closer to win.

The Tour du Haut Var is a classy two stage race held in the picturesque and hilly Provence region. First  held in 1969 with Raymond Poulidor as the first winner. Many top riders build their early racing form here and win: Kelly, Zoetemelk, Maertens, Claveyrolat, Gilbert, Voeckler to name a few. Even Eddy Merckx never won this race.

Tiernan-Locke is 27, rides for Pro Conti British Endura Racing. And he seems a man of destiny already winning (surprising many) the KOMs and placing 6th on GC at the 2011 Tour of Britain. Add a solid 2nd overall in the 2011 Vuelta Ciclista a Leon, too. I've read on twitter that SKY could be interested in him for next season. I'm sure many teams are setting their sites on this talented climber.

This season started off with a superb stage 1and 4 wins and the overall in the Tour Mediterraneen. His Mt. Faron victory was true class.

Still never heard of him?

He's a rider to watch out for. Stay tune for more good things from Jonathan Tiernan-Locke!
