Xavier Tondo: Rest in Peace

This morning I was alerted, on Twitter, that Xavier Tondo died in a freak accident after he was crushed between his car and a garage door in Grenada Spain.

It's two weeks since the death of Wouter Weylandt in the Giro d'Italia. And now the 32 year old Team Movistar climber Xavier Tondo is gone. Like Weylandt, Tondo had charisma and talent to burn.

Last Tuesday, Belgian cyclist Wouter Weylandt was laid to rest in Ghent.

During the same day French climber John Gradet pointed skywards in memory of Wouter Weylandt as he crossed the finishing line to win stage 11 of the Giro d'Italia. Gradet said, "Cycling is a big family and it was very important for me to be able to win and make that gesture for him."

Tomorrow before the mountain time trial stage 16 in Belluno, there will be a moment of silence from the Giro's cycling family in memory of Xavier Tondo. It will be another heartbreaking moment in this tragic cycling season.
